Power Speak

Welcome to First Grade!

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. I received my B.S. from BYU in Early Childhood Education and my M.S. from Purdue University in Curriculum and Writing instruction.  I have taught kindergarten for 15 years and this is my fifth year teaching first grade.  I am currently starting my fourth year here at Wasatch Elementary.  I love teaching at Wasatch!

2009-2010

This is an exciting year here at Wasatch.  We are beginning our dual immersion program in Mandarin Chinese with first grade.  I am excited to be teaming with Ms. West and helping to get this program off the ground.  What an amazing opportunity to be able to have children here in Provo, Utah begin learning how to speak Chinese at a young age!

Supplies

PLEASE NOTE:  Children will need to bring in TWO 1 1/2" or 2" three-ring binders.  One for their English class and one for their Chinese class.  These binders will hold your child's work throughout the entire year and are very important.  Please label these binders with your child's name.  Thank you!

What will we do?

We have a lot of fun in first grade!  We like to put on plays, have read-a-thons, study projects like learning about our bodies, animals, and countries around the world.  We also sell items in a first grade store, have a day where you can dress up like what you want to be when you grow up, take fun field trips to the BYU duck pond, Thanksgiving Point and the Orem Scera theater, bring a favorite stuffed animal for a "Teddy Bear" picnic.  Are you ready for some fun?
